# Dual ID system

> Label ID and Student ID formats.

Every student receives two auto-generated identifiers.

## Label ID (barcode / QR)

Printed on physical labels.

Format: `{birthYear}-{initials}-{7-digit-sequence}`

This permanent Label ID is **not** the same as the optional **5-digit print-batch sequence** (`00001`, `00002`, …) that appears on Avery sheets for that print job only. See [Labels and scanning](/workflows/labels-and-scanning).

## Student ID (demographic)

Used for reporting and ASISTS alignment.

Format: `{lastName}{firstName}{agencyId}{dobNoDashes}`

## Agency IDs

Configured per school under **Admin → Schools**:

| Code | School      |
| ---- | ----------- |
| R00  | District 79 |
| R01  | School 1    |
| R02  | School 2    |

Use **Backfill Student IDs** in Schools to migrate existing records.
